Ham

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Gen. 5:32; 6:10)—one of Noah’s three sons and a survivor of the Flood. Genesis recounts Ham’s disrespect after Noah’s drunkenness; Noah’s curse is spoken specifically over Canaan, Ham’s son, not over Ham or every descendant attributed to him (Gen. 9:20–27). Ham’s sons are Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan (Gen. 10:6). Later racial interpretations built upon this passage have no warrant in the wording of Genesis.
