(gracious)—the name of several persons. (1) (1 Chron. 25:4, 25) a son of Heman and a musician in David’s service. (2) (Neh. 1:2; 7:2) a brother or close relative of Nehemiah who brought news of Jerusalem’s distress. Nehemiah later entrusted authority in Jerusalem to Hanani and to Hananiah, commander of the citadel. (3) (Ezra 10:20) a priest of the sons of Immer who had married a foreign woman; First Esdras has a variant form. (4) (Neh. 12:36) a participant in the musical procession at the dedication of Jerusalem’s wall.
