(the LORD is my portion)—the name of several persons. (1) (2 Kings 18:18) the father of Eliakim, Hezekiah’s steward. (2) (2 Kings 22:4–14; 23:4; 2 Chron. 34:9–22) the high priest in Josiah’s reign who found the Book of the Law during the Temple repairs and sent it to the king. He helped lead the reform and the Passover that followed (2 Kings 23; 2 Chron. 35). (3) (1 Chron. 6:45) a Merarite ancestor in a Levitical genealogy. (4) (1 Chron. 26:11) a son of Hosah and Temple gatekeeper. (5) (Neh. 8:4) a man standing beside Ezra at the public reading of the Law. (6) (Neh. 12:7) a priest who returned with Zerubbabel.
(7) (Jer. 1:1) the priestly father of the prophet Jeremiah at Anathoth. (8) (Jer. 29:3) the father of Gemariah, one of Zedekiah’s envoys to Babylon. (9) (Neh. 11:11) an ancestor of Seraiah, a leader in the house of God. (10) (Bar. 1:1) an ancestor of Baruch. (11) (Susanna 2) the father of Susanna in the Greek additions to Daniel.
