Hiram-abi

(my master craftsman; 1 Kings 7:13–45; 2 Chron. 2:13–14; 4:11–16)—the skilled artisan sent from Tyre to Solomon for work on the Temple. Kings calls him the son of a widow from Naphtali and a Tyrian father; Chronicles describes his mother as belonging to Dan, perhaps reflecting residence and ancestry. He was especially skilled in bronze and made the two great pillars, the Sea, stands, basins, and other furnishings. The element abi is an honorific expression such as “my father” or “master,” not necessarily part of his personal name.
