Jeshimon

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(wilderness) (Num 21:20; 23:28) - a desert region by the Dead Sea. The summits of Pisgah and Peor are described in Numbers as facing the wilderness, evidently the Jeshimon east of the Dead Sea. In Deuteronomy 32:10, wilderness refers to the Sinai Peninsula and is called a waste and howling wilderness. In 1 Samuel 23:19, Jeshimon apparently means the hilly desert opposite the wilderness of Judah, west of the Dead Sea.
