Junia
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(Rom. 16:7)—a Christian greeted with Andronicus. Paul calls them his kinspeople and fellow prisoners, says that they were prominent among the apostles—or well known to the apostles—and notes that they were in Christ before him. Junia is most naturally read as a woman’s name, though some later interpreters took the name as masculine; the Greek phrase about the apostles also permits more than one interpretation.
