Kishon

(winding, tortuous) (Judg 4:7; Ps 83:9) - a well-known Palestinian stream, called both river and brook, rising near Mount Tabor, crossing the plain of Esdraelon, and entering the Mediterranean below Ptolemais. It first appears in the account of Israel's battle with Jabin and Sisera (Judg 4:7, 13). After victory Deborah and Barak sang, 'The river of Kishon swept them away, that ancient river, the river Kishon. O my soul, thou hast trodden down strength' (Judg 5:21). Elijah later slew Baal's priests on its banks (1 Kgs 18:40).
