Baal-tamar Baal Thamar

(place of palms) (Judg. 20:33) — a city of the tribe of Benjamin, lying near Gibeah of Benjamin. Near it the tribes of Israel fought and defeated the tribe of Benjamin. In the times of Eusebius and Jerome, a large village (Bethamar) stood on the site of Baal-tamar. It is likely that near this place also stood the palm tree of Deborah (Judg. 4:5). However, Baal-tamar is entirely distinct from the village bearing the same name that exists at present on the southern side of Jerusalem.
