Lynx

(Slavonic Bible, Dan. 7:6)—the largest wild cat then reported in southern Europe and Asia. Its thick, long, yellowish coat is marked with reddish-brown spots. The proverbial expression “eyes of a lynx” denotes exceptionally keen sight. Like the leopard, it inhabits wooded and mountainous country, often sheltering in hollow trees. The source describes it as fiercely predatory and repeats a natural-history report that it may kill as many as thirty sheep in a night. Most modern English Bibles render the animal in Daniel 7:6 as a leopard.
