Lystra

(Acts 14:6, 8, 21; 2 Tim 3:11) - a city of Lycaonia visited three times by Paul. At Lystra, Paul and Barnabas were taken by pagans for the gods Jupiter and Mercury after the miraculous healing of a lame man. The people even wished to sacrifice to them, and the apostles could scarcely restrain this blasphemous intention. Soon afterward, with remarkable fickleness, the same inhabitants listened to unbelieving Jews and nearly stoned Paul to death; believing him dead, they dragged him outside the city (Acts 14:19-20).
