Wax

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

—a substance produced by bees that softens and melts under heat. Scripture uses its ready dissolution as an image of bodily anguish and of creation trembling before God: “My heart is like wax; it is melted within my breast” (Ps. 22:14), and “the mountains melt like wax before the LORD” (Ps. 97:5; compare Mic. 1:4).
