Nain

(the meaning of this word is rather uncertain; it may be “dwellings,” “pastures,” or, perhaps, “beautiful”). The town of Nain was the site of one of the great miracles of our Lord Jesus Christ, namely, the raising of the son of the widow of Nain (Luke 7:11). It still exists to this day, under the more recent name of Nein, and is located at the northwest extremity of Jebel Duhy, or Little Hermon, south of Mount Tabor and not far from Capernaum. It is now a small settlement, situated on a hill amid the valleys, consisting of a few small houses, with scattered ruins around it, several caves in the rocks, and a small mosque.
