(Acts 6:5)—the first named among the seven men chosen by the Jerusalem Church for the daily ministry, “a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost,” and the Church’s Protomartyr. Full of grace and power, he performed wonders and spoke with wisdom that his opponents could not withstand. False witnesses accused him of speaking against Moses and the Temple, and he was brought before the council (Acts 6).
