Rainbow

(the bow in the cloud) (Gen. 9:13–17; Rev. 4:3)—a majestic natural phenomenon produced by the refraction of light in raindrops. It ordinarily appears when rain is falling while the sun shines, with the rain cloud opposite the sun. The rainbow is a brilliant arc bearing the colors of the solar spectrum, violet on the inner edge and red on the outer.
