(merciful)—the name of several persons in Ezra and Nehemiah: (1) (Ezra 2:2) one of those who returned from Babylon with Zerubbabel; (2) (Ezra 4:8–24) a Persian official or chancellor in Samaria who, with others, stirred Artaxerxes against the Jews and hindered the rebuilding at Jerusalem; (3) (Neh. 3:17) son of Bani, who helped repair Jerusalem’s wall; (4) (Neh. 10:25) a leader who sealed the covenant to remain faithful to God and His Law; and (5) (Neh. 12:3) a priest who returned with Zerubbabel.
