Savior
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(Luke 2:11; John 4:42)—one who delivers from danger or ruin. Scripture can use the word for human deliverers, but in its fullest and unique sense it belongs to God and to Jesus Christ, “the Saviour of the world.” The name Jesus itself declares His mission: “for he shall save his people from their sins” (Matt. 1:21). His salvation is not merely rescue from temporal distress but deliverance from sin and death and the gift of eternal life.
