Shelah; Shelanites
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(Gen. 38:5; Num. 26:20; 1 Chron. 9:5; Neh. 11:5)—Shelah was Judah’s third son, and the Shelanites descended from him. Descendants of this clan lived in Jerusalem after the exile. The source’s broader ethnological remarks about Judah’s intermarriages are historically situated nineteenth-century commentary rather than conclusions required by the biblical genealogy.
