(3) (2 Macc. 3:4 and elsewhere) a Benjaminite administrator of the Jerusalem Temple under Seleucus Philopator and Antiochus IV Epiphanes. (4) (1 Macc. 2:3, 65; 5:17–21; 2 Macc. 10:19–20 and elsewhere) Simon Maccabaeus, the last surviving son of Mattathias, who assumed leadership of Judea after his brother Jonathan.
