(Exod. 30:34)—one of the aromatic substances prescribed for the sacred incense. The Greek word staktē means something that drips or flows and was commonly understood as the finest spontaneously exuding myrrh. Other identifications, including a preparation from storax, have been proposed; the ancient substance cannot be identified with certainty.
