(Jer. 2:16; 43:7–11; Ezek. 30:18)—an Egyptian city in the eastern Delta near the route from Palestine, known to the Greeks as Daphnae. Judean refugees fled there after Jerusalem’s fall. Jeremiah buried stones in the pavement at Pharaoh’s house and foretold that Nebuchadnezzar would set his throne over them. A later tradition placed Jeremiah’s death there, but Scripture does not.
