Tharra (Teresh)

(Esth. 2:21-23; additions to Esther)—one of two royal eunuchs who guarded the threshold and conspired against King Ahasuerus or Artaxerxes; the other is called Bigthan in the Hebrew text and Gabatha in Greek tradition. Mordecai discovered the plot, reported it through Esther, and the conspirators were executed after investigation. Mordecai’s service was entered in the royal chronicles and later became decisive in his vindication.
