The Fuller’s Field

(field of the fuller, the washer) (2 Kings 18:17; Isa. 7:3) was located on the western side, near Jerusalem, along the channel of the upper pool, or reservoir; in this field cloth was usually fulled, washed, and cleaned in the pool, and hung out in the sun for drying. In this field stood king Ahaz at the time when the prophet Isaiah appeared before him with a great sign from the Lord (Isa. 7:1–16). Here, by the aqueduct, on the road of the fuller’s field, stood Rabshakeh with the Assyrian army, threatening conquest and devastation of the land of Judah, which, however, the Lord saved from the proud conqueror, at the prayer of king Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah (2 Kings 18:17).
