Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Judg. 9:50–54; 2 Sam. 11:21)—a town northeast of Shechem where Abimelech besieged a strong tower. A woman dropped an upper millstone upon his head; mortally wounded, he ordered his armor-bearer to kill him so that it would not be said that a woman slew him. The site is commonly identified with modern Tubas.
