Tree of life

(Gen. 2:9; 3:22; Rev. 2:7) — a tree in the midst of Paradise, by whose fruit man would have been bodily free from sickness and death. It was an image of our life of grace and blessedness in the Lord God Jesus Christ; only by abiding in Him and being united with Him can man have spiritual and gracious life within himself. After sin and the expulsion from Paradise, the fruits of the tree of life were of no benefit to man, since he could no longer partake of them.
