Transfiguration of the Lord

(Matt. 17:1-13; Mark 9:2-13; Luke 9:28-36)—Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a high mountain to pray. His face was transformed and shone like the sun; his clothes became dazzling white. Moses and Elijah appeared in glory and spoke with him about the “departure” or exodus he was to accomplish at Jerusalem. Peter proposed three dwellings, not yet understanding the mystery. A bright cloud overshadowed them, and the Father’s voice declared, “This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” When the disciples looked again, they saw Jesus alone.
