Weaving and Weaver

(Exod. 35:35)—the arts of spinning and weaving were known from great antiquity and were highly developed in Egypt. Israelites employed skilled work in the curtains, veils, coverings, and priestly garments of the Tabernacle. Scripture commonly associates spinning with women’s household labor (Prov. 31:19, 21–22), yet also names craftsmen and specialized woven work. Isaiah compares his life’s end to a weaver cutting finished cloth from the loom (Isa. 38:12), and Job says, “My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle” (Job 7:6).
