Zemaraim

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(two wooded heights)—(1) a town of Benjamin between Beth-arabah and Bethel (Josh. 18:22); (2) Mount Zemaraim in the hill country of Ephraim, from which King Abijah of Judah addressed Jeroboam and the Israelites before battle (2 Chron. 13:4-20). The source repeats the Chronicler’s figure of 500,000 Israelite casualties.
