means, in the Chaldean tongue, “servant, slave of God.” This is a proper name occurring twice in the Old Testament: a) 1 Kings 4:6 — father of Adoniram, whom Solomon set over the tribute; b) Neh. 11:17 — a Levite, son of Shammua, a descendant of Jeduthun, who lived in Jerusalem after the return from captivity.
