(heap of stones) (Deut. 3:4) — a wild region beyond the Jordan, in Bashan, belonging to Og, king of Bashan. This region, and the whole land of Bashan, was given by Moses to the half-tribe of Manasseh. This country, consisting of black basalt, around the time of Jesus Christ was called Trachonitis, lay east of the Jordan, near the Sea of Galilee, and once had sixty large cities with walls and bronze gates (1 Kings 4:13). It is now called Lejjah, south of Damascus.
