Misrephoth-maim

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(literally, “the burning of the waters”) (Josh. 11:8, 13:6). According to the interpreters of the Bible, this name refers to a certain place near Sidon, identical with Zarephath; but according to others, it refers to a gathering of waters or springs at the foot of the promontory of Mushakka, along the seashore between Tyre and Acco, now called Ain Mesheirifeh.
