Alush Aelus

(place of wild beasts) (Num. 33:13, 14) — the tenth encampment of the Hebrews in the wilderness, between Dophkah and Rephidim. According to the testimony of Eusebius, it was located in Idumea, called Gabalene, near Petra, but this opinion is scarcely reliable; it seems more correct to seek the location of Alush northwest of Mount Serbal, and at some distance from the Red Sea.
