Baal-zephon

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(place consecrated to Typhon) (Exod. 14:2, 9; Num. 33:7) — an encampment of the Israelites on the northern edge of the Red Sea, corresponding to the location of Suez, in which there was a temple for the worship of Baal. In Bruce’s opinion, this was the name of a lighthouse, or watch-station, at the northern entrance to the Gulf of Arabia.
