Geshur

(form of a valley) (Deut. 3:14; Josh. 12:5, and elsewhere) — a small region in the territory of the half-tribe of Manasseh, whose original inhabitants were never driven out of it (Josh. 13:13). The daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur, Maacah, was David’s wife, and from this marriage Absalom was born. After the murder of his brother Amnon, Absalom took refuge in Geshur, remaining there for 3 years, until he was brought back to Jerusalem by Joab (2 Sam. 13:37). This was a wild and rocky country to the southeast of Bashan. It is now called El-Lejah.
