Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(Gen. 10:17; 1 Chron. 1:15) — of the sons of Canaan, son of Ham, from whom descended the Canaanite tribe of the Arkites, who dwelt, it is supposed, in the northern part of Phoenicia. Arka, according to Josephus, its chief city, is often mentioned by ancient writers, and some of its ruins can still be seen today on the western slope of Mount Lebanon, under the name Tell Arka.
