Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(destruction, extermination) (Gen. 14:2, 8) — one of the five cities located in the valley of Siddim. It was situated on the southern shore of the Dead Sea, on the road to Egypt (Jer. 48:34), and was spared by God at Lot’s entreaty when the other cities were destroyed. It was afterward also called Zoar and Segor.
