Aner
Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia
(according to Gesenius — a youth; according to Fürst — a branch, descendant) — the name of one person and of one city: a) (Gen. 14:24) one of the Canaanite allies of Abraham, who joined him in pursuing the enemy who had carried off his nephew Lot into captivity; b) (1 Chron. 6:70) the name of a city in the half-tribe of Manasseh, given to the Levites of the family of Kohath. In Joshua (21:25), instead of Aner, it reads: Taanach.
