Calneh, or Calno

(Gen 10:10; Amos 6:2) - a city of Shinar, or Mesopotamia, built by Nimrod and identified with Calno in Isaiah 10:9. It stood on the eastern bank of the Tigris and once had considerable commercial importance. The source says its ruins were called Torpakh-Kala by Turks and Qal'at al-Shirqat by Arabs, twenty-two hours south of Mosul and ten hours from the mouth of the Little Zab.
