Eber

(traveler, sojourner): a) (Gen. 10:21, and elsewhere) son of the patriarch Shelah, great-grandson of Shem, father of all the sons of Eber, was the last of the pious patriarchs before the division and dispersion of the peoples. In his time occurred the building of the Tower of Babel and the dispersion of its builders. In the Gospel of Luke (3:35) he is likewise called Eber; b) (1 Chron. 8:12), of the descendants of Benjamin, one of the builders of the cities of Ono and Lod; c) (Neh. 12:20) one of the priests in the days of Joiakim and of Ezra and Nehemiah; d) (1 Chron. 8:22) son of Shashak, mentioned in the genealogy of Benjamin; e) (1 Chron. 5:13) a descendant of Gad, who settled in Bashan after the return from Babylon.
