Aristarchus

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(best ruler) (Acts 19:29; 20:4; 27:2) — a Macedonian of Thessalonica, companion and fellow-worker of the Apostle Paul, and sharer in his sufferings at Ephesus (Col. 4:10; Philem. 1:24 [as given]). Being with the apostle in this city, he nearly perished on account of the popular uprising raised by Demetrius the silversmith (Acts 20:4 [as given]). By tradition, he was bishop in Apamea of Syria and was beheaded in Rome. His memory is January 4 and April 13.
