Geraza, or Gergesa

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Matt. 8:28) — of the cities of the Decapolis, from which the land of the Gergesenes took its name; it was situated on the far side of the Jordan, southeast of the Sea of Gennesaret, in Perea, or ancient Gilead. This first name of the city does not occur in Holy Scripture. In the parallel passages in Mark (5:1) and Luke (8:26) it reads: Gadara.
