Jahaz

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(a trodden place) (Num 21:23; Josh 13:18 and elsewhere) - a Moabite city, probably lying east of the Dead Sea on the border of the land of Moab, in the wilderness. Near it the Israelites defeated Sihon, king of the Amorites. Although this city is mentioned repeatedly in the Old Testament, its actual location remains unknown. Jerome placed it between Medeba and Dibon.
