Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(Exod. 30:18; John 13:5)—a vessel for washing. The Tabernacle’s bronze laver stood between the tent of meeting and the altar, and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and feet from it before ministering (Exod. 30:17-21). Its purpose joined bodily washing with the ritual purity required for sanctuary service.
