Nadabath Nadabatha

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(1 Macc. 9:37)—a border city of the tribe of Reuben (Josh. 13:9–16), taken from the Amorites (Num. 21:30), afterward held by the Ammonites and Moabites (1 Chron. 19:7). In Maccabean times it was probably again under the power of the Moabites and was, at that time, occupied by the Nabateans. In Eusebius’s time the ancient name of this city was known, near Heshbon, and at present in that locality is found the small town of Madaba, with several ruins.
