Rosh

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(head). (1) (Gen. 46:21) a son of Bela son of Benjamin, mentioned only there. (2) (Ezek. 38:2–3; 39:1) a Hebrew word ordinarily meaning head or chief, but also read as a proper name for a people. The source reports older proposals locating this people north of the Taurus near the Caspian and Black Seas, and records the source-era conjecture that it referred to the Russian people under Gog alongside Meshech and Tubal. This conjecture is preserved as part of the 1891 encyclopedia and is not presented as a secure modern identification.
