The Adriatic Sea

(Acts 27:27). In this sea, as is known, the ship carrying the Apostle Paul, on his way to Rome, was once caught in a storm. Now under this name is known the gulf lying between Italy on one side and the coast of Dalmatia on the other, called the Venetian Gulf. In the apostle’s time, it is thought, this name meant the whole breadth of the Mediterranean Sea, from Crete to Sicily.
