(Num. 16:14; Isa. 7:23; Exod. 22:4 [as given]; Ezek. 28:26, and elsewhere). Vineyards and the wine obtained from them have always been very highly prized in every country. The first mention of a vineyard and vineyard wine occurs in the Book of Genesis (9:20), in the history of the patriarch Noah. This cited passage of Holy Scripture, among other things, serves as an indication that the cultivation of the grapevine was unknown before the Flood. Grapevines still grow wild in Armenia, in the region of Ararat.
