Throne

Archimandrite Nikifor’s Biblical Encyclopedia

(2 Chron. 9:17–19; Gen. 41:40; Ps. 50:7; Rev. 4:4 and elsewhere)—a raised place or high seat upon which kings and rulers sit at solemn audiences. It is higher than an ordinary chair and may require a footstool. Some thrones were reached by steps and were broad enough for a queen or royal son to sit beside the king (Isa. 6:1; Ps. 110:1). Solomon’s throne was made of ivory and overlaid with pure gold (1 Kings 10:18–20).
