(fat, fertile place) (Judg. 1:31) — a city of the tribe of Asher. “Out of Asher his bread shall be fat, and he shall yield royal dainties” (Gen. 49:20): such was Jacob’s prophecy concerning the tribe of Asher, and in the name of this city (fat, fertile place) it was fully realized. The city, however, remained, at least for a time, in the power of the Canaanites, since Asher did not drive out its former Canaanite inhabitants.
