—the sacrament in which the faithful receive the Body and Blood of Christ under the forms of bread and wine and are united to him as a pledge of eternal life. At the Mystical Supper Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” He took the cup and declared it “my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins,” commanding his disciples to do this in remembrance of him (Matt. 26:26-29; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:19-20; 1 Cor. 11:23-26).
