(covering, protection)—the name of several persons or clans: (1) a descendant of Benjamin through Bela in the list of Jacob’s household that went down to Egypt (Gen. 46:21); (2) a descendant associated with Ir in 1 Chronicles 7:12; (3) the brother of Maacah, whom Machir took as wife (1 Chron. 7:15). The genealogical forms vary among passages and textual traditions.
